SONGWRITER’S LAMENT

By Mickey Jupp
Bits of paper lying around, they all got some words written down
Nothing special, just a line or two, nothing different, nothing new
I got something I’m trying to say
But I’m having trouble, I can find no words today

I’m no Shakespeare, I’m no Keats, but I can make you tap your feets
Bring you a smile, I can make you feel blue, it takes a little longer than it used to do
I got something I’m trying to say
But I’m having trouble, I can find no words today

Some people think you pull ‘em out of a hat, but I am here to tell you it don’t work like that
Hard work and sleepless nights, that’s the only way to get your name up in lights
But I wish I was, I wish I was, I wish I was a dictionary
Yeah, dictionary – all them words

It takes weeks and months, not hours and days to say I love you in a million ways
And how it feels to have a broken heart - you sing of politics and call that art
I got something I’m trying to say
But I’m having trouble, I can find no words today

I got a deal, the money is good, but I’m not turning ‘em out like I should
I got my eyes on a Cadillac, but I got a publisher on my back
And I wish I was, I wish I was, I wish I was a dictionary

Yes I wish I was, I wish I was, I wish I was a dictionary
